1. Personal Background: (5 sentences. Culture, nationality, schooling, important life events, etc.)
Eliot Porter earned a BS in chemical engineering from Harvard in 1924. Then, went to medical school in 1929 and earned a MD. He then liked it so much he taught and researched there until 1938. After he was done teaching he went on to acquire a Leica in 1930. Porter was born in Winnetka, Illinois in 1901 to a prosperous family. As a boy he photographed the natural surroundings of his family's summer home,in Great Spruce Head Island, Maine. Name of Artist: Eliot Porter
Dates of Artist’s Life:
2. Style: (5 sentences. What visual characteristics does this artist’s work possess? If you can compare it to a painting or art history style please do.)
Eliot Porter was known for his richly colored images of the natural world. Almost making them look fake but they're just so dense in color that they are so detailed. Also, Eliot Porter was known as the father of color and nature photography. He took pictures of trees, birds and other natural things. But all of his photos were outside. Hi photography was like oil painting because of how bright it was, and how almost fake it looked.
3. Philosophy: (5 sentences. What were the major ideas behind this artist’s work? They are personal, political, social, etc. What were they trying to “say” with their photographs?)
The main idea behind Eliot Porter's photography was that he often wanted to highlight elements the average person would overlook. He would look for specific plants, colors or textures that symbolizes something far greater about the landscape he was shooting. He also wanted to
4. Influences: (5 sentences. How has the photographer influenced you in your work or who were they influenced by?) For me I was never influenced by anyone in photography. I just started to learn about this guy a couple of days ago for this project but I can tell you who he was influenced by. Eliot Porter was influenced by Alfred Stieglitz, Paul Strand, and Ansel Adams. He loved their images because of the elegant black and white images that they made in 1938. I would say if I really had to choose who I was kinda influenced by it would be my mom because she loves to take pictures of me playing soccer.`

AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE ARE THE PHOTOS
This photo above was a pretty hard and easy photo. It was hard finding the right place to take it and what color of leaves to use. I love this picture because it is very nostalgic and outdoorsy.
In this picture it was hard to take because I had to find a plant that looked like this. I went to three different locations that I had thought might have this picture and on the third one that is what I got after a couple minutes of shooting.
As soon as I thought that I knew where I wanted to take the picture. I took this by the dexter cider mill because there is a bank by it from the huron river that is perfect and looks just like this. It took me just a couple of photos to know that I had nailed it. I couldn't get the orange in the picture but, otherwise i think I did good.
6. Personal Artist Statement: Your images should tell a story. In 5 sentences tell me about your images. Use Visual Literacy vocabulary to enhance your report.
7. Resources: Cannot be Wikipedia. You need to include where you found the information about your artist, provide a link and/or article title.
